Cancer Claims in Monsanto Roundup Lawsuits
The people who filed Monsanto Roundup lawsuits claim that the company failed to disclose the risk of developing non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and other cancers from their product.
The types of cancer that have been attributed to the chemicals in Roundup have been B-Cell and/or T-Cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This would also include many of the other subtypes like follicular lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, mantel-cell lymphoma, diffuse large B-Cell lymphoma, and hairy-cell leukemia. The documents that have come out due to this litigation demonstrate that Monsanto not only created false data and attacked legitimate studies exposing the dangers of Roundup, but they also started a campaign of misinformation to deceive governmental agencies, farmers and any other possible consumers who would use Roundup that it was safe. Monsanto even has been shown through the documents to have worked with the EPA to try to attack the connection between Roundup and cancer.
The attorneys suing Monsanto claim that they have known for over 30 years that there was a link between Roundup and different forms of cancer. Monsanto decided, intentionally, not to warn the public but instead decided to continually state that Roundup was safe (as table salt and practically nontoxic to humans, pets, birds, fish).
Types Of Cancer Known To Be Linked To Roundup And Side Effects
The main chemical in Roundup that has been linked to cancer is glyphosate, which is the main ingredient in Roundup. The most serious side effect is the development of cancer, which main is non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, leukemia, and B-Cell lymphoma. The people most at risk for developing cancer are farmworkers and others who are exposed to Roundup in the workplace. Examples of the type of workplaces where exposure to Roundup has been linked to cancer would be nurseries, garden centers, and landscapers. This is because these individuals were exposed to glyphosate due to a number of ways including cleaning up the product, mixing it with other items, it could enter the drinking water, eating food that has been exposed and most commonly breathing it while spraying.
Thousands of people in the United States who were diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the symptoms include swollen lymph nodes, stomach pain, fever, night sweats, chest pain and loss of appetite. B-Cell lymphoma makes up about 90 percent of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosed every year with T-Cell lymphoma making up approximately 10 percent. Other types make up approximately 1 percent or less.
